Acacia pulchella

Prickly Moses

Acacias, or wattles, are shrubs and trees found in warm and tropical regions, from the Americas and Europe to Asia and Africa, however, the vast majority of species are native to Australia. They belong to the pea family. They are evergreen plants grown for their attractive foliage and bright yellow blooms. The genus varies in size from small shrups, ideal for containers, to large trees of 10m or more in height. Prickly moses is one of a small number of Acacias to have true leaves, rather than phyllodes. These are feathery and at the base of each leaf is one or two spines. The flower heads are bright yellow and spherical. It flowers in late winter and early spring. The prickly nature of this shrub means it is ideal as a barrier to shield areas from humans and animals.
