Acacia pycnantha
Golden Wattle
Acacias, or wattles, are shrubs and trees found in warm and tropical regions, from the Americas and Europe to Asia and Africa, however, the vast majority of species are native to Australia. They belong to the pea family. They are evergreen plants grown for their attractive foliage and bright yellow blooms. The genus varies in size from small shrups, ideal for containers, to large trees of 10m or more in height. 'Golden wattle' blooms in spring, with large fluffy, yellow, sweet smelling flower heads. Each flower head is a bunch of many tiny flowers. It is one of the few acacias which produces true leaves, rather than phyllodes.
