The flowers, which are green, yellow, orange or red, in racemes, umbels or corymbs, appear in early Spring, and are followed by fruit, - samaras - or "helicopters", "whirlybirds" "maple keys" or "polynoses" due to the way they spin as they fall in Autumn.
