Ageratum is a group of herbaceous plants which are part of the Asteraceae family. It is a genus native to tropical and sub-tropical America. Specifically, Ageratum houstonianum is the most commonly grown species found in cultivation and is originally native to Guatemala, Belize and parts of Mexico. It has a neat mounding bushy habit, ovate green leaves and panicles of thread like flowers, coming in blues, purples, white or pink shades. It is an annual plant and typically flowers from early summer right through to autumn. Different varieties have different heights, with shorter forms often used in bedding arrangements, and taller varieties in cut flower arrangements. 'Blue Hawaii' is a compact variety that bears mauve-blue fluffy flowers
