Alcea rosea 'Halo Mix' (Halo Series)
Hollyhock 'Halo Mix'
Alcea is a group of plants in the Mallow family Malvaceae, native to Asia and Europe. Alcea rosea (previously called Althaea rosea) is commonly known as the Hollyhock and is a species which specifically found naturally in Turkey. It is normally grown best as a deciduous biennial, or a short lived perennial, and has lobed round green leaves with open funnel-shaped flowers carried on tall spikes. They are traditionally part of cottage gardens, however many are susceptible to a fungal disease known as rust, one which can persist if allowed to grow for more than two years. Hollyhocks like a well drained soil but appreciate some organic matter when planting for best results. Through cultivation, many colour forms are now available. 'Halo Mix' is commercial mix of various hollyhocks from the Halo Series - a range of tall hollyhocks producing single bicolour flowers.
