The bright red cap fades to yellow-orange from margin toward center with age. The cap is flat or convex. It's yellow gills are on the hymenium, which is free. The stipe has a ring and volva. Spore print is white. Edible but not recommended. Grows from Quebec Canada to Hidalgo Mexico. Loves hardwood. Also known as 'Jackson's Slender Caesar” and 'American Caesar's Mushroom”.
