Anthurium crystallinum

Crystal Anthurium

Flamingo plants are related to the Arum Lily, the leaves are glossy, wax like in appearance and heart shaped. The flowers or spadix are borne on a fleshy stem that comes up from a bract. They do not tolerate direct light, and are usually grown as a houseplant in cooler climes. Many foliage species varieties are epiphytic and grow on branches in tropical rain forests. They are usually grown in the home more for their foliage rather than flowers although some will flower. Anthurium crystallinum is originally from central and south america, and has large velvet oval heart-shaped leaves with white veins. It produces green flowers.

Planting Young Plants

From Early Spring TO Early Spring

Fill the pot up to a third with gravel or the like as it needs to have good drainage then top up with soil that is high in a peat composition. It grows well in a medium to bright indirect light, so avoid direct sun.

Propagation by Division

From Early Spring TO Late Spring

New crowns that form from the parent plant can be carefully prised apart and re potted, water well to let it settle in.
