Honey Fungus in the GardenTags plant encyclopedia

Armillaria mellea

Honey Fungus

A form of fungus found in Northern Europe commonly growing out of tree roots. This fungus has many different varieties, forming many different types of mushroom from closed cup to open, overlapping blooms. It is very damaging to its host tree and to many other plants. Unfortunately, by the time the mushrooms appear, much of the damage to the host would have been done. This fungus is not considered edible and should not be collected for the pot.
