Astrocaryum mexicanum - Choco Palm - is tropical or sub-tropical small palm native to Mexico. It is very spiny - has a spiny trunk, and even the flowers are spiny! It has large, simple, or sparingly divided dark green leaves, the leaflets being silvery on the underside. It bears white flowers in late Winter.
