Azorella are low-growing dwarf, mat-forming plants that can survive the harsh conditions in the high-altitude regiona and subantarctic coasts. They typically form rounded mounds of foliage, usually less than 10 cm high but can, with age, reach 1m. Several species are grown as ornamental plants in rock gardens.

From Early Spring TO Mid Spring

Plant container grown plants into a a hole that has had ericaceous compost or well rotted compost, at least a year old, as they need an acidic soil to to do well. Top dress with mulch, well rotted compost or manure leaf mould or bark chippings. This will help it retain moisture.

Propagation by cuttings

From Late Summer TO Early Autumn

Semi hard wood cuttings are taken from the current years growth from late summer to mid autumn the bottom of the cuttings is hard and soft on the top. With a sharp knife take a cutting of about 14cms, remove lowest leaves, dip end into rooting hormone, and place round the edge of a pot filled with a suitable compost, water well, they must remain moist till rooted, place under glass but in semi shade.
