American Dwarf Birch

Betula - birch - can be deciduous trees or shrubs, usually with good Autumn colour. and often with coloured bark that peels. Birch bears male and female catkins in Spring, either before the leaves emerge, or at the same time. The 'American Dwarf Birch', is also commonly named as Bog Birch, Resin Birch or Shrub Birch. It has the characteristics of the familiar birch tree, but is the size of a shrub. In sheltered locations Betula glandulosa can reach 3m. They tend to grow in thickets of many individual plants.

Planting

From Late Autumn TO Early Spring

Bare root plants can be obtained from specialist growers. These should be planted in well prepared moist and fertile soil between late autumn and early spring. They should be well watered when first planted and kept moist until well established.
