Bidens alba

Bidens Alba

Bidens common names include beggarticks, black jack and burr marigolds. It is a perfect container plant which trails down from the edges of windowboxes, large pots, and planters and sports yellow flowers and ferny, green foliage. Some varieties are fragrant. Bidens likes rich, well-drained but moist soil. Although usually grown as an annual, it is a perennial in Zones 8-10. The flowers on this plant are depicted as daisy-like due to the larger white petals and the very small yellow flowers which are located at the end of the branches. Bidens alba flower colours vary depending on the subspecies; some have yellow blossoms and others may have flower-heads with white or cream.

Planting young plants

From Early Spring TO Early Spring

Keep in mind when planting that Bidens is thought of as tender, so remember to wait until your soil is warm and the night time temperature is well above freezing before moving outside. Bidens likes a position of full sun and remember to apply water fairly sparingly. It prefers moist and rich soil. Ensure that temperatures are mild and all chance of frost has passed before planting out, as Bidens is a tender plant.
