Planting Outdoors Spring

From Mid Spring TO Late Summer

Plant established seedlings when they have 5/6 true leaves, in rich well drained soil, manured the previous Autumn/Winter. Firm soil well, and water in. Plant out 60cms between plants and 75cms between rows. Cabbage root fly can be a problem, and is cured by collars of old carpet about 10" in diam. placed round newly planted plants.

Propagation by seed under glass

From Late Winter TO Mid Autumn

For late Summer and Autumn harvest, sow seed from late Winter to early Summer in trays under glass. For early Summer harvest sow in mid Autumn. Sow the seeds 1/2" deep in compost, spaced for enough apart for seedlings to be handled when they have started to grow. Water after sowing, and keep the compost moist, When seedlings have their first true leaves, plant them out.
