Rosy periwinkle

Sadabahar, periwinkle or vinca rosea is an evergreen shrub grown as an ornamental plant. It grows to about .9m in height and displays smooth, glossy, dark green leaves, and flowers throughout the year. It has long been cultivated for herbal medicine as well as an ornamental plant. It survives in dry and nutritionally deficient conditions, and is popular in subtropical gardens where temperatures never fall below 5 °C to 7 °C, and as a summer bedding plant in temperate gardens.

Planting Outdoors

From Early Spring TO Late Spring

Plant out in a sun or partial shade where the soil is not dry.

 

Propagation by cuttings

From Mid Summer TO Early Autumn

Semi hard wood cuttings are taken from the current years growth from late summer to mid autumn the bottom of the cuttings is hard and soft on the top. With a sharp knife take a cutting of about 14cms, remove lowest leaves, dip end into rooting hormone, and place round the edge of a pot filled with a suitable compost, water well, they must remain moist till rooted, place under glass but in semi shade.

From Late Spring TO Mid Autumn

Single blue/violet flowers grow above a shiny dark green foliage in Spring and through to Autumn.
