Cautleya spicata 'Robusta'

Himalayan Ginger

Cautleya spicata is cultivated as an ornamental garden plant, hardy to a few degrees of frost. If garden planted, a covering mulch is recommended in the winter. It may also be grown in a container, when it needs protecting from frost. It requires a moisture-retentive, humus-rich soil, out of the full sun. 'Robusta' boasts red stems, deep red bracts and orange-yellow flowers.

Planting

From Early Spring TO Early Spring

Do not plant outside in areas where winter temperatures can fall much below 0C. In these cooler regions, they are best planted in containers which can be given winter protection. Plant roots 6cm deep in good rich soil with adequate summer moisture and in shade, about 15cm apart. Grow in a shaded mixed border or in a woodland setting.
