An attractive and densely growing shrub with shiny, dark green leaves. The small flowers grow dense clusters. A few species are reported to be unpleasantly fragrant. They flower for up to six weeks sometime between late spring and early summer. Best planted in a protected position out of strong winds. 'Diamond Heights' is low-growing, with pale yellow leaves with a dark green splash in the centre, and pale blue flowers central splash

Planting Outdoors
From Early Spring TO Late Spring
Ceanothus need care when first planted. Choose a position out of strong winds where the soil is not too wet. They prefer a full sun position. If you can plant near a fence or wall which will provide a little support then all the better. Dig the soil well, allow it to settle for a few weeks then plant your Ceanothus to the same depth as it was in the pot. Sprinkle a handful of blood, fish and bone fertiliser on the surrounding soil.
Propagation by cuttings
From Late Summer TO Mid Autumn
Semi hard wood cuttings are taken from the current years growth from late summer to mid autumn the bottom of the cuttings is hard and soft on the top. With a sharp knife take a cutting of about 14cms, remove lowest leaves, dip end into rooting hormone, and place round the edge of a pot filled with a suitable compost, water well, they must remain moist till rooted, place under glass but in semi shade.
