Chamaerops humilis is an evergreen palm making a medium-sized shrub to about 2m tall, often stemless or multi-stemmed, with a rounded mass of fan-shaped leaves to 45cm in length. Loose clusters of small insignificant yellow flowers are borne on mature plants only. Hardy to about -10C. Prefers a North-facing or East-facing sheltered position. 'Cerifera' is variable in colour, habit and size, but bears ice-blue leaves

Plant young plants out in spring. Chamaerops Humillis prefers partial shade and needs to be planted in a loamy soil which is well drained. To offer protection from strong winds which can damage the plant, it is best planted in the shaddow of a wall or fence protecting it from the prevailing winds. It prefers an acid to neutral soil.
