Cheiridopsis is a large genus with a wide variety of growth patterns. Flowers can be white, yellow, orange, and purple. They need adequate water during their active period in the fall and winter. They prefer sandy soil and need lots of light to do well. Old leaves tend to stay and become unattractive. Cheiridopsis are easily grown from seed. New leaves, looking like a pair of cupped hands, emerge from inside pairs of older leaves. Large fragrant yellow, pink or orange flowers, up to 6 cms. in diameter, appear in Autumn. In dry soil it will tolerate a frost to -5 deg.C

Planting
From Early Spring TO Late Spring
Plant in free-draining, light, preferable sandy soil which is quite rich in nutrients. Position in bright light light in Winter, and shaded from sun in Summer. It can be planted outdoors in dry, sunny rock crevices, but needs to be protected from wet in Winter. The roots are prone to rotting in wet conditions.
