Watermelon Congo in the GardenTags plant encyclopedia

Citrullus Lanatus 'Congo'

Watermelon 'Congo'

Original:Congo water melon gets up to 50 pounds in weight and it has a high sugar content of almost 10%. New:Watermelons are not, strictly speaking, melons, although they are in the same family. They have a long growing-season (around 80 days) and need a soil temperature of at least 70 deg.F for planting out. Other than the heat required and the long growing season required, treat them much like melons. They grow along the ground, and are space-greedy. (The "height" given here is more the "length"). 'Congo' bears firm, sweet green fruits with dark green stripes that weigh as much as 35 lbs.,
