Citrullus Lanatus 'Icebox'

Watermelon 'Icebox'

Watermelons are not, strictly speaking, melons, although they are in the same family. They have a long growing-season (around 80 days) and need a soil temperature of at least 70 deg.F for planting out. Other than the heat required and the long growing season required, treat them much like melons. They grow along the ground, and are space-greedy. (The "height" given here is more the "length"). 'Icebox' watermelons were developed to be small enough to fit in a fridge (a.k.a. icebox). The fruit are round, dark green with red flesh, and very sweet. As they are smaller than most watermelons, they mature earlier
