Japanese cedar Sekkan-Sugi in the GardenTags plant encyclopedia

Cryptomeria japonica 'Sekkan-Sugi'

Japanese cedar 'Sekkan-Sugi'

'Sekkan-Sugi' produces soft creamy, yellow foliage in spring, darkening to green in summer and then adopting bronze and purple shades in the cold winter months. Brown cones appear on the ends of the branches in autumn. This tree often has an odd shape when young but quickly develops into a graceful neat shape, and provides a magnificent pyramid shape.

Planting young plants

From Early Spring TO Early Spring

Can be grown in a container or planted into the garden in any moist and water retentive soil with a high organic content. Requires a sheltered position, protected from strong winds, in dappled sun or partial shade. For container growing, place in a protected site, preferably with light dappled shade. For garden growing, plant in flower borders and beds or rock gardens.
