Cantaloupe Melon Charentais in the GardenTags plant encyclopedia

Cucumis Melo var. Cantalupensis 'Charentais'

Cantaloupe Melon 'Charentais'

There are numerous types of melon with many differing varieties of each. They are climbing types and low growing or ground types all require similar husbandry. The ground types tend to be the larger fruits. The climbing varieties need strong trellises for support and the fruit requires netting i.e. fruit hung in net bags tied to the trellis for support of their considerable weight. 'Cantaloupe' melons have orange or green grooved skins and orangey-coloured flesh. 'Charentais' is a cantaloupe type melon, with similar flesh to a cantaloupe, but slightly more fragrant.
