Armenian Cucumber in the GardenTags plant encyclopedia

Cucumis melo var. utilissimus

Armenian Cucumber

There are numerous types of melon with many differing varieties of each. They are climbing types and low growing or ground types all require similar husbandry. The ground types tend to be the larger fruits. The climbing varieties need strong trellises for support and the fruit requires netting i.e. fruit hung in net bags tied to the trellis for support of their considerable weight.'Kakri' is a different sort of melon! The fruits are long and thin, and have a tendency to curl. (They are straighter if they hang from the plant). Best eaten when 12" - 15" long. Usually can be harvested around 70 days from germination, they are trouble-free. They need warmth for germination, and, like all the melon family, plenty of water. They are also space-hogs - so grow them up a trellis, or similar
