Plant in light, stone-free soil that was not manured the previous year, or the roots will fork. Carrot root fly can be a major problem, To overcome this, plant in raised beds at least 2' high (carrot fly does not fly above 18" from the ground). 'Danvers 126' is a deep orange coloured half-long carrot (6"-8"long) that is around 70 days to harvest

Propagation by seed

From Late Winter TO Mid Summer

Before sowing carrots, dig the soil to a fine tilth, breaking up any large lumps and removing any stones.. Make drills to a depth of 1cm (½in), leaving about 30cm (12in) between each drill. Sprinkle carrot seed thinly along the drill. Cover the seeds with soil, and water well with a fine-rose watering-can. Keep the soil moist until germination, about 10-20 days. Sow in succession for continuous cropping, from late Winter under cloches, or early Spring in open ground.
