Geranium phaeum

Dusky Cranesbill

Geraniums are hardy and mainly perennial and are used in a number of garden situations such as ground cover or rockery plants. Geraniums are easily grown and can transform problem places such as dry shade, hot sunny banks or moist shade. Geranium phaeum is a species Geranium which is found naturally in Europe. It has dark violet coloured flowers which have petals that turn back, thus showing the protruding stamens and style of the flower. A number of cultivars are now available with different coloured flowers. It also has green, deeply lobed leaves, with distinctive purple blotches around the centre.
