Hedychium 'Dr Moy'
Ginger Lily 'Dr. Moy'
Ginger Lilies are flowering, perennial, rhizomatous plants with stout, reed-like stems which carry lanceolate sheathing leaves in two parallel ranks. The stems are topped with spikes of orchid-like flowers that are often fragrant. Gingers vary from frost hardy to tender green-house or conservatory plants, and protection from cold will help even hardy varieties to flower, so a solution in cold areas is to grow in containers, and move the containers outdoors in the warmer months. Wet conditions are sometimes a worse enemy than cold, so make sure the plants are going to be protected from very wet conditions, and that the soil in which they are grown is very free-draining. 'Dr. Moy' is a hybrid of Hedychium flavum and Hedychium coccineum, bred by Ying Doon Moy in the USA. it is a shorter-growing ginger lily, growing to 90cm, and has variegated dark green leaves splashed with cream. It bears pale orange flowers
