Hesperantha vaginata

Harlequin Evening Flower

Hesperantha, previously known as Schizostylis, is a group of low level rhizomatous plants that mostly originate from South Africa. The species Hesperantha vaginata grows wild in heavy clay soil on the Bokkeveld Plateau and in the western Karoo. Like other Hesperantha it has sword like green foliage, but is much shorter and produces large cup shaped flowers with yellow petals, often with dark brown centre and dark brown tips on the outer tepals.
