Humulus 'Crystal'

Hops 'Crystal'

Hops are vigorous climbers with deeply lobed leaves to 15cm in length. The drooping aromatic greenish-yellow female flower clusters are followed by hops that are attractive to wildlife. 'Crystal' is a triploid aroma-type variety, a blend of Cascade, Brewer's Gold and Early Green. The vines grow 4-6 feet the first year, twice that in the second year and can be trained to fan out over a fence, or other support.

Flowering

From Mid Summer TO Late Summer

Hops are in flower from mid Summer to late Summer. The flowers are dioecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but only one sex is to be found on any one plant so both male and female plants must be grown if seed is required) and are pollinated by wind

Planting

From Early Summer TO Mid Summer

Prick out the seedlings into individual pots when they are large enough to handle. Plant out to the permanent growing site in Summer

Propagating by seed

From Early Spring TO Mid Spring

Sow seed in Spring in a cold frame. Germination is usually quite quick. Prick out the seedlings into individual pots when they are large enough to handle.pring.
