Spanish Bluebell 'Danube'

A Spanish bluebell can be blue, pink or white in colour, with a faint scent and more open flowers than the English species. Distinguishable from the English native which are sweetly scented, a deep blue with the flowers generally growing on one side of the flower stalk, where as the Spanish variety are a paler blue with flowers more often than not growing all around the flower stems.

From Late Spring TO Early Summer

The Spanish bluebell has a more open bell like flower than the English variety and can come in white, violet blue, pale pink or pale blue. They do not have such a strong scent as the English variety.

 

Planting Outdoors

From Early Autumn TO Mid Autumn

Dormant bulbs are best planted out into the garden in Autumn, before the frosts arrive. Plant the bulbs just below the surface of the soil, in ground which is rich but well drained. The best position is somewhere with shade.

 

Propagation by division

From Early Autumn TO Late Autumn

Dig up and divide the tubers. If discarding, bin them - if you put them in the garden compost they will not decompose, but carry on growing.
