Pleurocarpous Moss, hypnum moss

Hypnum cupressiforme is found in all continents except Antarctica. It typically grows on tree trunks, logs, walls, rocks and other surfaces. It prefers acidic environments and is fairly tolerant of pollution. It was formerly used as a filling for pillows and mattresses. It is a small to medium-sized moss about 2-10 cm long. Perfect for bog gardens or moist, shady rock gardens.

Planting

From Early Spring TO Early Spring

Plant divisions in partial shade, in moist soil enriched with peat. Place the small clumps on the prepared soil, and press each clump firmly so it makes contact with the soil. Keep the moss moist until new growth indicates the plant has rooted.
