Polka Dot Plant 'Splash Select White'

Hypoestes phyllostachya, commonly called polka dot plant, is usually cultivated as an ornamental houseplant but can be grown outside as an annual plant. They mostly sport green leaves with pink spots, although the spot colour can vary from white to shades of pink or red. It can produce small, solitary pink/purple flowers at the nodes.

Planting

From Early Spring TO Late Winter

This adorable plant looks great tucked in a planter with other foliage plants if used as a houseplant or as part of a color display with flowers, or in summer borders for added texture. If planted outdoors, it should be noted that it will not survive in temperatures less than 16C.

Propagation

From Early Spring TO Early Spring

Polka dot plants can be grown either from seed or cuttings. If you are starting from seeds, sow the seeds indoors in early spring under lights and pinch out the weaker seedlings. Provide them with ample moisture and bright light to develop the best color. You can also start them from stem tip cuttings, but this isn't perhaps the best option. They are slow to root, so use rooting hormone and be patient.
