Lepismium cruciforme

Trailing cactus

Lepismium cruciforme is a trailing cactus, which grows on trees in jungles of Argentina and Brazil, is olive green under ideal growing conditions but blushes magenta when stressed. The stems may reach 1.3m long. Tufts of white spines sparkle along fleshy leaves that produce dime-sized white flowers, followed by bead-like seed capsules.

Planting young plants

From Early Spring TO Early Spring

Although an epiphyte, this plant will grow in normal potting compost or an orchid growing medium. Grow in partial shade in a humid location. It is frost tender so should be grown indoors in cold climates and should not be stressed by summer temperatures above 28C.
