Common Star Lily

L. Montanum is a stemless perennial about 5-10 cm tall with a short, deeply buried rhizome and fibrous root, the flower stocks arising directly from the rhizome. The fragrant flower has six white tepals around 2cm long. Grows on moist low ground in sandy flats, scrub, or forests. The seeds remain underground in their pods. It is believed that ants distribute the seeds thereafter.

Planting

From Early Spring TO Early Spring

Sand lily plants are wild flowers and difficult to source. If you can obtain them from a commercial provider, you can grow the plant in a wildflower garden, a rock garden, beds or borders. Sand lily flowers require sandy orrocky, well-drained, alkaline soil and plenty of bright sunlight. Plant in early spring.
