Leucojum vernum

Spring Snowflake

Snowflakes are bulbous plants in the Amaryllis family. They resemble snowdrops, but show apparent differences. Flowers are bell shaped and are white, with green or yellow markings on all petals. They also have strap like foliage. They are much taller than snowdrops and produce clumps very reliably. They will grow in sun or partial shade, although naturally grows on the edges of woodlands. Leucojum vernum is the Spring Snowflake and flowers early-mid spring. It is the smallest of the Leucojum species, growing only to about 30cm tall maximum.
