Melanoselinum decipiens syn. Thapsia decipiens

Black Parsley

Melanoselinum decipiens - Black Parsley - is a tall, short-lived perennial from Madeira that forms a rosette of large, glossy, semi-evergreen leaves at the top of sturdy, ridged stems. After two or more years it bears umbels of small, pale pink flowers, in late Spring or early Summer, followed by black seed heads, and then the plant dies. It often self-seeds

Flowering

From Late Spring TO Mid Summer

Umbels of small pink flowers appear in late Spring or early Summer

Planting

From Early Spring TO Late Spring

Plant in moist but free-draining soil in a sheltered site in full or partial sun. This plant dislikes Winter wet, so a site where it can be protected from Winter wet is desirable

Propagating by seed

From Early Autumn TO Mid Autumn

Melanoselinum decipiens sometimes self-seeds. Seeds can also be collected and surface sown in Autumn and transplanted as soon as possible.
