Orostachys

 

Chinese Hat

Orostachys is a rosette-forming succulent, similar in appearance to Echeveria, and Sempervivum with leaves that are linear to ovate, often with dull purple dots. Its roots are fibrous. The flowering stem is solitary, arising from the center of the rosette in the second year. The stem leaves are alternate. There are 14 known species. It is remarkably hardy, thriving in temperatures as low as -40 degrees C.
