Papaver somniferum is a subtype of opium poppy which grow to about 60 to 90cm tall and has thick, hairy stems and lettuce like leaves. The seed pods are well-suited for crafts and dried floral arrangements. Most annual varieties will readily self-seed. 'Drama Queen' has large blooms, with petals in shades of crimson and indigo. Remove spent flowers for a lasting show.
