Prunus cerasifera or Cherry-plum, is a small deciduous tree or shrub native to south east Europe and western Asia. It is one of the earliest to come into blossom in the late Winter or early Spring, with white flowers which are followed by edible yellow or red cherry-like plums in late Summer, Makes a good hedging plant. The flowers are attractive to pollinating insects, and the fruit are attractive to birds. 'Thundercloud' is a purple-leafed cultivar that makes a good ornamental landscaping tree. The new leaves emerge red in Spring, and mature to purple. The pale pink flowers are followed by small (1") edible cherry-plums
