Prunus laurocerasus 'Novita'

Cherry Laurel 'Novita'

Prunus laurocerasus, or Cherry Laurel, is an evergreen shrub or small to medium-sized tree, with leathery, shiny, dark green leaves with finely toothed edges, which may have an almond smell when crushed. In Spring flower buds appear which open to fragrant creamy-white flowers with yellow stamens in early Summer, and followed by the fruit, which are small cherries that turn black when they are ripe. 'Novita' is a hardy variety with fragrant, white flowers in Spring.

Planting young plants

From Late Autumn TO Late Winter

Plant prunus laurocerasus rootballed plants in the dormant season, in a sheltered position where the tree will get plenty of sunshine. Dig a large hole, and put a good amount of organic material in the bottom of the hole to help with drainage. Container-grown plants (those grown in a pot) can be planted at any time of year. Those planted in the growing season (March to October) will have to be watered more than those planted in the late autumn, winter or early spring.
