Prunus Serrulata 'Royal Burgundy'

Japanese Cherry Tree 'Royal Burgundy'

Prunus serrulata, or Japanese Flowering Cherry, is a small deciduous tree that bears clusters of pink or white flowers in Spring at the same time the leaves emerge. Grown for the dis[lay of blossom, the tree also gives Autumn interest when the leaves turn to shade of yellow, orange and red. 'Royal Burgundy' is a small, purple leaved variety and a cultivar of Prunus Kanzan with pale pink double flowers appearing after foliage, giving it a striking appearance. Foliage turns bright red in Autumn before falling. Upright, open vase habit.

Planting

From Early Spring TO Early Spring

Cherries prefer deep, fertile and well-drained soil with pH 6.5-6.7. They dislike shallow, sandy or badly drained soils. Acid cherries tolerate some shade and are suitable as fan-trained trees against north-facing walls or fences, or as open centred bush trees. Best planted in full sunlight.

Flowering

From Early Spring TO Late Spring
