Flowering Cherry Tree 'Spire'

'Spire' Cherry Tree has columnar form when young, spreading out a bit as it matures. In Spring it bears clusters of small pink flowers with red centres at the same time as the bronzy-coloured leaves are emerging. The foliage gives good Autumn colour as the leaves turn red and gold before falling.

Cherries prefer deep, fertile and well-drained soil with pH 6.5-6.7. They dislike shallow, sandy or badly drained soils. Acid cherries tolerate some shade and are suitable as fan-trained trees against north-facing walls or fences, or as open centred bush trees. Best planted in full sunlight.
