Pasqueflower Red Clock in the GardenTags plant encyclopedia

Pulsatilla vulgaris 'Rode Klokke' syn. Pulsatilla vulgaris 'Rote Glocke', Pulsatilla vulgaris 'Red Bell', Pulsatilla vulgaris 'Red Clock'

Pasqueflower 'Red Clock'

Pulsatilla vulgaris is a clump-forming perennial with dissected slightly hairy leaves and white, pink or purple flowers with golden centres in Spring. The flowers are followed by silky seeds. The plant is poisonous. It develops upright rhizomes, which go deep (up to 1m) into the ground and this functions as food-storage organ. Its leaves and stems are long, soft, silver-grey and hairy. It grows to 15–30cm. 'Rote Glocke' is a compact Spring flowering plant which produces red flowers with yellow centres, followed by pretty, fuzzy, seed heads when the blooms end. This plant will self seed. Watch out for slugs and snails eating the new growth.
