Pasqueflower White Swan in the GardenTags plant encyclopedia

Pulsatilla vulgaris 'Weisse Schwan' syn. Pulsatilla vulgaris 'White Swan'

Pasqueflower 'White Swan'

Pulsatilla vulgaris is a clump-forming perennial with dissected slightly hairy leaves and white, pink or purple flowers with golden centres in Spring. The flowers are followed by silky seeds. The plant is poisonous. It develops upright rhizomes, which go deep (up to 1m) into the ground and this functions as food-storage organ. Its leaves and stems are long, soft, silver-grey and hairy. It grows to 15–30 cm. 'Weisse Schwan' is a german bred cultivar (or 'White Swan' as it is sometimes sold as in English) and is a compact plant grey-green leaves that are hairy when young. In mid Spring, before the leaves appear, upright to nodding, hairy, bell-shaped, white flowers with prominent, gold-yellow stamensappear, and are followed by silky seed-heads.
