Solanum Capsicastrum
Winter cherry Solanum
S. capsicastrum has smoother stems, shorter leaves, and slightly brighter coloured larger berries than the similar S. pseudocapsicum (Jerusalem Cherry). White small star shaped flowers bloom during summer, followed by berries that look just like small tomatoes. They begin green in colour, then turn yellowish, orange and red. Flowers last until just before winter and the berries can last for months after the festive holiday period (if they reside in a cool setting).

Planting young plants
From Early Spring TO Early Spring
The winter cherry is mostly grown as a house plant in temperate climates. It prefers cool temperatures of 15-21°C and 10-15°C during winter. Avoid placing the plant near cold drafts. A lover of bright light, and some direct sunlight (not too much). Placed near a window that receives day time sun is preferred. When planting or repotting, use a general purpose houseplant compost. A well draining, soil-less potting mix will suffice.
