Solidago ulmnifolia

Elm-leaved Goldenrod

Goldenrod is a perennial woody flowering plant, most varieties of which have conical panicles of small yellow flowers in Summer and Autumn. The leaves vary, but most varieties have narrow, tapering leaves around 4" long, that are hairy on the underside. Plants can also vary considerably in height, depending on the variety. This variety, Solidago ulmnifolia is one of the shorter goldenrods. It's height tops out at three feet. It is found in medium to dry soils, and is best in shaded to semi-shaded situations.
