Sphagnum Moss
Sphagnum (living plant), Peat Moss (decayed plant)
Sphagnum is a genus of approximately 380 accepted species of mosses, commonly known as peat moss. Sphagnum thrive mostly in the Northern Hemisphere where the decayed moss forms peat bogs, found mostly around ancient conifer forests. Decayed, dried sphagnum moss is known as peat or peat moss. This is used as a soil conditioner which increases the soil's capacity to hold water.

Planting young plants
From Early Spring TO Early Spring
Small pots of living sphagnum can often be found for sale in aquatic centres, sold pimarily for the creation of a bog garden. These can be planted straight into wet, rich soil, preferable supplied by flowing water rather than stagnant water. Plant in an area in full or partial shade. Young plants will be slow to establish and should spread in time through the natural spread of spores. Large clumps can be divided.
