A wild flower, appearing early in spring, flowering before the leaves fully expand. The leaves used to be used as a tobacco substitute. Tussilago farfara is a Perennial growing to 0.2m by 1m at a fast rate. It is hardy. It is in flower from late winter, and the seeds ripen early spring. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by Bees, flies, self. The plant is self-fertile. Suitable for: light, medium and heavy soils. Suitable pH: acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil. The plant can tolerate maritime exposure.
