Blue Tweedia

Tweedia caerulea is a straggling evergreen perennial with heart shaped, gray-green, downy leaves. It is grown for its clear pale blue, star-shaped flowers, which are long lasting and cut well. The summer flowers age to purple and are followed by 30cm long, boat-shaped seed pods. The seeds have downy parachute-like tufts. Not the sort of plants to be grown outside where there are likely to be frosts. These plants need to be grown in a conservatory or cool greenhouse or at least brought inside for the winter

This is a perennial in frost free areas or when grown under glass. Requires a min. temp. 5°C. In the UK it is usually grown as an annual. Prefers a fertile, well-drained soil in full or partial sun. Indoors use a loam-based compost, place in bright light.

Propagation is by seed. With a minimum temperature range of 3–5 °C (37–41 °F), it can be grown outdoors in a frost-free, sheltered environment. Alternatively it can be grown as an annual.
