Palm

There are many types of palm. The large, evergreen leaves of palms are known as fronds. Many palms grow only in tropical or sub-tropical areas, although there are a few hardy palms. Most palm have a single stem with a cluster of fronds at the top. As the fronds die and fall, they leave a distinctive and characteristic mark on the stem. The height, spread, and frost-hardiness of palms varies hugely, as do the characteristics and growing requirements.

Flowering

From Early Summer TO Late Summer

Palm trees usually flower in Summer, and often not until the fourth or fifth year of growth. There are usually small male and female flowers, sometimes on the same individual plant (hermaphrodite), but more often they are on separate male and female plants. The structures (rachillae) that bear the flowers are usually large, even though the flowers are small. Most palms are pollinated by insects, but some are pollinated by the pollen blowing in the wind.

Panting

From Early Spring TO Late Spring

Palm trees usually need to be planted in free-draining, light, sandy soil
