Planting Outdoors
From Early Spring TO Late Spring
If you wish to plant a wollemi pine outside, choose a partially sunny, sheltered site where the soil is free-draining. Dig a hole larger than the container (about twice the size), add some low phosphorus fertilizer, and water the tree thoroughly.
Planting Indoors
From Early Spring TO Early Spring
Choose a pot that is a little larger than the pot supplied, and partially fill with a suitable, free-draining compost. Place the tree on the compost so that the top of the root-ball is at the same level as it was in the supplied pot, and then top up the compost. Water the newly-potted plant thoroughly, allowing the water to drain away. Place the potted tree in a light position. If possible allow the potted tree to stand outdoors, in a sheltered, shaded position for one week a month.
Propagating by seed
From Early Spring TO Early Spring
Wollemi pines have both male and female cones. The seeds are small, brown and winged. Seeds have been germinated successfully in arboretum nurseries.
Propagating by tip cuttings
From Early Spring TO Early Spring
Tip cuttings need a good rooting powder to help the production of roots, and they can take 6 months to root. Make a clean cut on the piece of material for your cutting, remove the lower needles, and dip in rooting powder before planting in compost. Water the cutting well.
